Wolves secure a deal for Tongo Doumbia

Tongo Doumbia was today tipped to become a big part of the new Wolves for years to come after converting his season-long loan into a £3m permanent signing from Rennes.

The Mali international has signed a four-year deal until 2016 to become boss Stale Solbakken's sixth permanent capture after Frank Nouble, Bjorn Sigurdarson, Razak Boukari, Bakary Sako and Georg Margreitter, leaving Slawomir Peszko as the only loan signing.

Doumbia's capture takes Solbakken's spending to over £10m – but about a third of the £30m brought in from the sales of Steven Fletcher, Matt Jarvis, Michael Kightly, Adlene Guedioura and Sam Vokes in the summer.

Doumbia, 23, is still coming to terms with the English culture and our football, but Solbakken has seen enough of the 23-year-old's potential to convert his loan with a view to a permanent deal into a full-time capture.

"I'm delighted we've signed him permanently and he can be an important player for Wolves for the next few years," said Solbakken. "We've already seen how quickly he's settled and what he can offer.

"I'm also confident when he gets even more used to the country and to his team-mates, his game will grow even more and he'll get better and better."
