Nenad Milijas could have a fresh start at Wolves after it emerged new boss Stale Solbakken tried to sign him last season.

The Serbia international wants to stay at Molineux as he enters the final 12 months of his four-year contract after settling happily in Wolverhampton.

But his chances of the regular football he craved but failed to get under former bosses Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor may have improved after sources revealed Solbakken attempted to lure him to Germany last term.

The Norwegian coach, who was in charge of Cologne at the time, sent a two-man delegation to look at Milijas after being impressed by his style of play.

It is understood tentative talks were held between Wolves and Milijas' representatives about a move to the Bundesliga, but that McCarthy pulled the plug on a potential transfer – even though he was not playing the 29-year-old regularly at the time.

Meanwhile, Wolves have moved on from one potential signing after Bolton defender Zat Knight, 32, pledged his future to boss Owen Coyle.
