Wolves target Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson has risked open conflict with his current club Lillestrom after they told him he must wait for his transfer to English football.
The 21-year-old Icelandic forward, who is a confirmed target for Wolves, met with the Norwegian club officials yesterday to thrash out his future.
But the meeting did not go as Sigurdarson hoped with Lillestrom sticking by the plans they have outlined to Wolves during negotiations and demanding the forward help their cause in the Norwegian Tippeligaen Premier League for the time being.
That drew an angry response from the striker via his Twitter account last night on which he posted: "Just had a meeting with the board. Forcing me to stay!"
Controversially, he added two hash-tags claiming he was "mentallybroken" and "wanttoleave" – both of which are unlikely to go down well with the Lillestrom fans and may yet have an impact on Sigurdarson's position at the club.
But while Lillestrom are happy to grant him his transfer eventually – and have thrashed out the key points of a deal with Wolves – they first want the player to help the club recover from a difficult start to the season.
The Norwegian season runs through the summer and into the late autumn and Lillestrom officials could not see the sense in selling Sigurdarson only for the player to be kicking his heels waiting for the English domestic campaign to get underway in mid-August.
All of this has been anticipated by Molineux and will not unduly concern chief executive Jez Moxey. He has privately earmarked August as the most likely month for Sigurdarson's arrival.
But the delay obviously gives potential rivals for his signature the chance to enter the running – although the presence of Stale Solbakken is a key factor in Wolves' confidence in eventually landing their man.
Wolves fans will get the chance to meet new boss Stale Solbakken for the first time next month when the club combines its kit launch with the opening of a new Megastore on July 2.
