The £3.5m winger believes Mick McCarthy's side will employ a considered approach rather than go gung-ho as they seek their first Premier League win in nine games.
The atmosphere has turned ugly in the last two home league matches as Wolves have trailed 2-0, and Hunt is aware supporters are impatient for the team to return to winning ways after just two points from the last 24.
But the 30-year-old insists going hell for leather could be detrimental to their chances.
"The fans have to be patient – this is the Premier League, and every team has at least one bit of quality that can win you the game," said Hunt.
"So we have our bit of quality and we've got to keep a clean sheet and try to score. We'll score in most games if we can have a considered approach.
"We were disappointed to concede the third goal at Manchester City on Saturday, but I don't think we were gung-ho either – we were pressing nicely and trying to put the pressure on them. It's important to get the right mix."
Meanwhile, Hunt has revealed he had a moan at McCarthy after being axed for the two previous league games.
"I disagreed with being left out," said Hunt. "He made his points clear. I think he's honest enough for everyone.
"I started the season quite well but we had three or four games where no-one was up to scratch so anybody could have been dropped.
"I didn't like it but I just had to deal with it, get my head down and work hard."
Hunt's distance covered – almost 11.7km at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday – was more than any other player and he reckons he is close to being back to his best.
"I suppose I've got a big heart and hopefully it's a foundation to help us win," he said.
"I feel I've looked a little bit back to myself in the last couple of games so I'm looking forward to Wigan.
"Hopefully I'm back to the real Stephen Hunt because being up and down the pitch all the time is the way I play when I'm at my best."
