Gillingham 0 Shrewsbury 0 - Player Ratings
Lewis Cox gives his verdict on the Shrewsbury players following the goalless draw at Gillingham.
Matija Sarkic
Back-to-back shutouts for the goalkeeper, who made it nine clean sheets in 24 league games. His saves were largely routine, with Gills often off-target.
Shutout 7
Matthew Pennington
Very solid for the second game running. Growing into the side. Put his head where it hurts and Aaron Wilbraham said he embodied the side’s display. One iffy clearance went unpunished.
Embodied 7
Ethan Ebanks-Landell
A busy afternoon for the big stopper against a physical Gills. Ebanks-Landell won all of his headers on an impressive afternoon. But a couple of slips could have proven costly.
Dominant 7
Ro-Shaun Williams
Put in one of his best displays for a while. Defended manfully and used the ball well, also keen to step out of the back three. Measured.
Composed 8
Donald Love
Kept his place at right wing-back and is growing again. It was a big afternoon in front of goal for Love but he passed up two chances, including one glorious opening in the first half, as a first Shrewsbury goal continues to elude him.
Chances 7
Ollie Norburn
A purposeful performance from the captain, who was busy without the ball and keen to make himself available to team-mates. Used the ball well with smart long and short passes and dangerous crosses.
Purposeful 7
Josh Vela
Back to somewhere near his best with another excellent, dynamic display in the heart of Town’s midfield. Wins all of his 50-50 challenges and is the heartbeat of the side. Got involved going forward.
Heartbeat 8
Sean Goss
Worked his way into the contest and was influential on the ball for his side. A couple of decent shots and passes. A willing runner and worker without the ball.
Linked 7
Nathanael Ogbeta
Quieter than in recent weeks but got to grips with the tricky Jordan Graham. Almost won it with a wondergoal. Attacked well as ever and always a threat.
Test 7
Daniel Udoh
Among the best that frontman Udoh has shown in recent months. Led the line superbly with real appetite. Created one chance with fine play and laid on others. Much better.
Hunger 8
Shaun Whalley
Caused the Gills real moments of concern with some sharp movement and bursts of speed. Helped create one chance early on and always a threat with his direct running.
Sharp 7
Substitutions
Harry Chapman (for Whalley, 86), Almost won it with deflected low drive. Curtis Main (for Udoh, 86), Dave Edwards (for Goss, 88). Subs not used: Burgoyne, Sears, Davis, Pyke.
