Bristol Rovers 2 Shrewsbury Town 1 - Player ratings
See how we rated the Shrewsbury Town players in their defeat to Bristol Rovers.
Matija Sarkic
A sharp early save set the tone for a busy afternoon for Town’s keeper where he was regularly called into action. Could do nothing about Rovers’ goals and was generally a solid presence. 7
Matthew Pennington
A welcome return after a six-week layoff albeit at right back rather than in the centre of defence. Was dragged out of position for Rovers’ opener but popped up with several vital clearances elsewhere. 5
Ro-Shaun Williams
Had to make a lot of clearances particularly in the first half as Rovers pressed time and time again. Tricky afternoon for all the Town defence as the ball just kept coming back but didn’t shirk the challenge. 6
Ethan Ebanks-Landell
A vocal presence and tried to sort the early difficulties as Town were frequently pulled apart. Solid enough when needed but booked after a challenge in the second half as frustrations grew. 6
Nathanael Ogbeta
A difficult afternoon for the young full back particularly as Rovers piled down the right in the first half. Ogbeta did grow in influence in the second, and whipped in a couple of teasing crosses. 5
Oliver Norburn
Quiet afternoon for the skipper but he never hid. Produced a couple of important clearances and tried to keep the midfield ticking over but Town never really got going until the injury time drama. 5
Sean Goss
Could almost sense his frustration after being offered little chance to build on his two-goal breakthrough against MK Dons. Tried to exert an influence in the second half before being withdrawn. 5
Josh Vela
Not able to enjoy any regular time on the ball but Town probably looked most threatening during the spells he was most involved. Will be disappointed to have lost the ball ahead of Rovers’ second goal although did everything he could to try and retrieve it afterwards. 5
Shaun Whalley
Competitive as ever and almost got in behind during the early stages. At the heart of the injury time revival with a pinpoint cross which almost brought an unlikely equaliser. 6
Curtis Main
Made himself a threat with a couple of first half breaks down the inside right channel and also won his fair share of defensive headers from set pieces. But not an afternoon when he was given much service. 5
Harry Chapman
Sadly no heroics from Harry on this occasion but not for the want of trying. Did his best to get on the ball and makes things happen but it was a disappointing day for Town’s attack. 5
Substitutes
Daniel Udoh (for Chapman, 67) 6
Sent on and did his bit with another goal at the Memorial Stadium, on the corresponding weekend to that which he notched the winner last year.
Dave Edwards (for Goss, 74) 6
An assist, almost an equaliser, and certainly a positive influence as Town chased the game. Experience continues to be crucial.
David Davis (for Vela, 87) N/A
Rekeil Pyke (for Main, 87) N/A
Not used: Burgoyne, Golbourne, Sears.
