Gary Holt in frame to become next Shrewsbury Town boss
Gary Holt is in the frame to become the next Shrewsbury Town manager.
The 47-year-old, who yesterday resigned from Scottish Premiership side Livingston after over two years in charge, is thought to be a leading contender.
Holt had led Livingston to the third and second best finishes in the club’s history in his first two seasons in charge but struggled this season and departed yesterday after taking just one point from five games, leaving the side third-bottom of the table.
The former midfielder, who won 10 caps for Scotland, also briefly managed Falkirk and was first-team coach at Norwich, where he spent a number of years as a player.
He was a fans’ favourite as a player north of the border at Kilmarnock and still lives in the area. Kilmarnock are near-neighbours and local rivals of Ayr United, one of Town chief executive Brian Caldwell’s former clubs.
Shrews sacked Sam Ricketts on Wednesday after a torrid start to the campaign.
They are in FA Cup action against National South side Oxford City on Sunday. Town players return to training today following a couple of days off after the draw at MK Dons.
Former boss Paul Hurst is understood to be extremely keen on returning, while several high-profile out-of-work bosses have distanced themselves from the vacant Montgomery Waters Meadow role.
