Shrewsbury looking at keeper cover
Sam Ricketts is considering a move for a goalkeeper in the transfer market after Matija Sarkic was ruled out for up to three months with injury.
The on-loan Wolves keeper could be sidelined until next year with the hamstring injury sustained at Plymouth last weekend.
Harry Burgoyne will be given the nod in tomorrow’s home League One clash against Gillingham, but Ricketts has not ruled out a swoop for extra back-up in that department.
“Yes potentially,” said Ricketts on a keeper back-up. “You don’t want to be light in that area.
“It depends who would be available and the circumstances around that.”
Town are believed to be looking at handing out a short-term deal to cover Sarkic’s absence,
Shrewsbury also have 20-year-old Cameron Gregory, who is likely to be loaned out for first team experience.
Burgoyne, 23, meanwhile, is hoping to take his chance and lock down his role as Ricketts’ No.1
The Ludlow-born goalkeeper said: “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, to getting that first League One start and kicking on.”
Ryan Sears has been ruled out for 10 to 12 weeks with an ankle injury.
It is believed Town are looking to move a couple of senior players on before the transfer deadline in a couple of weeks.
