Shrewsbury Town to continue producing matchday programmes
Shrewsbury Town insist they will continue to produce match programmes despite publications no longer being mandatory.
At the request of a number of clubs, the EFL addressed the issue at its summer conference and removed the regulation stating a programme had to be produced.
But chief executive Brian Caldwell said that was not a path Town were preparing to go down.
“We plan to continue having programmes at our matches but this gives flexibility for clubs who don’t want to,” he said.
“I don’t have an issue with clubs being allowed that flexibility as sales don’t always cover costs.
“But for Shrewsbury it makes sense to continue as we have many who like the match programme for all club news, so there are no plans for us to stop them.”
The EFL said: “Mandatory publication of a programme was required due to a number of the EFL’s partnership, sponsorship and opt-in agreements.
“EFL clubs approved an amendment which allows clubs to opt out of providing advertising in match programmes on the basis it is replaced with other inventory.
“This amendment will mean that the requirement to deliver programme advertising in the EFL regulations will only apply if a match programme is produced.
“The amended regulation provides each club with the option to determine whether or not they publish a match programme.”
Meanwhile, reports linking Town with a move for Rangers keeper Jak Alnwick are wide of the mark.
Joe Riley, who was released by Town, has been linked with League One rivals Plymouth.
