Town are top of League One going into the Easter programme in a three-way battle with Wigan and Blackburn for two automatic promotion places.

A never-say-die spirit among the players has been evident in matches with a number of late goals. The Meadow boss insists it is the same around the club, and he would particularly like to achieve promotion for chairman Roland Wycherley.

“I’m aware that I am the manager and you’re seen as the leader of the group, but ultimately I don’t feel the personal pleasure,” said Hurst.

“I’m just pleased for the players and the chairman as well. He’s had some good times here but he’s had a lot of indifferent times as well.

“Each time we see each other it’s almost ‘we can’t believe what’s happening’.

“It is genuinely a big collective effort and that is all of the staff as well.

“We’ve got a very good relationship going on off the pitch as well as the players on it. That makes it nice to go to work, not just because we’re doing well, but I feel it’s a good place to be.

“I think that’s shown with the players.

“When people ever come to see us they always talk about what a good atmosphere is seems.

“We feel that will help in trying to be successful.”
