No rivalry between Shrewsbury Town goalkeepers, insists Craig MacGillivray
Shrewsbury's Craig MacGillivray insists his close relationship with Dean Henderson helps both keepers bring the best out of one another.
Town’s shot-stopper was unfortunate to miss out on a second consecutive clean sheet as a deflected strike saw him wrong-footed in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers.
But former Walsall man MacGillivray, 25, has anther chance to deny the opposition as a resurgent Plymouth head to Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday, where he will again deputise for the banned Henderson.
MacGillivray said: “It’s a big benefit that we’ve got a close relationship and it helps bring the best out of each other.
“After games we’ll both discuss, sit down and watch the little clips they put on Sky in the highlights.
“We just watch things and have discussions about what we could’ve done there or what each other would’ve done in that scenario. It’s the best way to learn.”
MacGillivray is targeting another shut-out against Plymouth, who downed Town’s rivals Blackburn on Saturday. He made a number of fine saves in Shrews’ fine recent win at Portsmouth. “I wouldn’t say I like being busy!” added the goalkeeper, who has kept four clean sheets in his 10 Town outings. “It has its moments. Of course you want to be making saves but at the same time if I’m not busy then it means everyone in front of me are doing an exceptional job.
“You’ve got to be ready for when the opportunity arises.”
