Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst kicking his heels as player search rolls on
Frustrated boss Paul Hurst admits his fussy nature means locking down January transfer targets has been a struggle.
While Shrewsbury have raked in two rounds worth of prize money as well as £144,000 worth of broadcasting fees in the FA Cup so far, the Town boss admitted that transfer funds have not been boosted dramatically. Hurst is keen to boost his ranks with wide players but has found the options limited so far this month.
“I did see the chairman on Saturday, he had joked about going on holiday or not answering my calls,” laughed Hurst. “Sometimes when my phone’s playing up I do wonder if he has put a bug in there to make it more difficult.
“I don’t think it’s changed anything dramatically. We’ve had a conversation after the home tie on TV.
“At the minute we’re not not doing anything, we’ve brought two players in but not at any cost that is significant.
“I’m finding it difficult to find players I want.
“That’s for two reasons, one because January is always difficult and two, I’m very fussy. It’s trying to balance all of that. There is a small amount of money there we can try and do something with.”
Hurst added: “I find it extremely difficult to identify the players I want.
“Hopefully that’s a good trait to have, but sometimes you feel like you’re banging your head against a brick wall.”
