Town had the better opportunities against their top flight visitors but will face a replay to reach the fourth round of the competition as West Ham and the returning Joe Hart stood firm.

Hurst reiterated his pride for Town as they bettered a team ranked 31 positions higher than them, but revealed there was a solemn feel in the changing rooms as his side were unable to beat Hart.

The replay will take place the week beginning beginning January 15 at the London Stadium.

The boss said: "We're still in the hat. It feels a bit like a missed opportunity. We had one or two chances and could've done even better.

"But we have to understand we were against a Premier League team and I think we more than matched them.

"I'm proud in one but there's a tinge of disappointment perhaps, that we haven't got through to the fourth round."

Hurst added: "I think the players are always a good gauge and it's quiet in the changing rooms, they're not running around high-fiving themselves about getting a draw.

"I am proud so don't want to come across to critical but I just felt the game was there to be won.

"We did some thing really well and others could've been better."

David Moyes side saw a little more of the ball in the second period but failed to test Dean Henderson.

Town went closest in the first period through Mat Sadler and Alex Rodman, before Jon Nolan skies a close-range effort with minutes to go.

Hurst believes the replay, Town's first visit to the London Stadium, will be a much tougher ask for his side, who are flying high in League One and face a Checkatrade Trophy final 16 knockout later this week.

"It'll be a massive ask now to repeat that performance," he added. "I heard Joe Hart speaking he said they might have more players back and they may play a stronger team.

"They'll be on home soil and be a lot more comfortable in our surroundings.

"It's something to look forward to. Part of the season has been extremely good and it's another to look forward to."
