Keeps your heads up, pleads Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst

Paul Hurst has ordered his Shrewsbury Town players keep their heads held high as they aim to respond to a first league defeat of the season.

Town battled hard but were edged out to a 1-0 defeat by Peterborough United at London Road on Saturday, falling to a first loss in 16 – one shy of a club Football League record – but remained top of League One.

And the defiant Blues boss was more than happy with what he saw from his side despite relinquishing their unbeaten run, as a first-half wondergoal was the difference between the two sides.

Hurst insisted that there will be no feeling of doom and gloom as the players return to work at Sundorne Castle today.

He said: "They were very down and disappointed which is understandable.

"But at the same time I've told them that they keep their heads up, because you are going to lose games with the best will in the world.

"They can't be too down, that's for me to try to manage. It's also for the players to understand to be disappointed, but when we come back it's no body sulking or heads down. Heads up and work, smile on our faces and work hard.

"Do the same we have been doing. We could've quite easily come away with something, a draw or victory.

"It's not very often you come away from home, dominate for large parts.

"One of their people I know said 'extremely unlucky'. I think that often speaks volumes from the opposition."

Hurst's side take a break from league action as they tackle the FA Cup first round tie with Aldershot this coming Saturday.

The boss added his belief that Town's unbeaten run was not a monkey on his squad's shoulders – and that he still enjoyed his side's display.

"I'm smiling. I'm fine," he added.

"It's not a relief either. I don't feel we've been carrying it to be honest. Lots of people have been wanting to speak about it and rightly so. I didn't think it was dragging us down.

"Even in the first-half, as much as I didn't think we were at our best, there were a few moves in there that we could've only have dreamed of seeing in the past, some really good football."
