Paul Hurst takes Shrewsbury Town's club record with a pinch of salt

Paul Hurst is taking club records with a pinch of salt as Town go looking to equal a best-ever unbeaten Football League run.

The League One leaders look to make 16 games unbeaten at Peterborough tomorrow, matching the effort of Fred Davies' team from the Division Three winning 1993/1994 campaign.

Hurst maintained that while players and staff appreciate records little while in the thick of the action, it is a positive for supporters.

But he insisted that taking any points from a struggling Posh side – who are without a win in six – would be a positive afternoon's work.

"It would be nice," Hurst said. "I don't know if you're in the moment but I don't think as players you get too caught up in it.

"Are they really going to sit down when they're 50 years old and say 'we were part of that team' – I'm not sure.

"It's important that if it doesn't quite work out they don't deem it as failure."

Davies' side's run consisted of 10 wins and six draws from October until March of the title campaign. Hurst's charges can better than with 12 wins and four draws should they enjoy success at the ABAX Stadium tomorrow.

"It'll be nice, I don't know what the other record was build upon, whether it was expected or they were a stronger side going into the season with expectations a little bit higher than when we started.

"You have to take things into context and relation at the time but it would be great if we could extend it.

"It would be a good results if it was a draw or a victory against what I consider a very dangerous team."
