Shrewsbury Town supporters have been urged to beat the queues ahead of this weekend's top-of-the-table clash against Wigan Athletic.

Paul Hurst's side go toe-to-toe with one of only three other unbeaten sides in League One at Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday.

It is just Town's third home clash this season, they have previously played five of their seven games in all competitions away from home.

And with excitement brewing in the home crowd, the former Premier League visitors – who won the FA Cup in 2013 – have sold-out their away allocation.

As of Thursday night around 6,000 tickets have been sold for the fixture, with Town encouraging supporters to buy tickets ahead of the game so not to get caught in the queues on match day.

The club's new fan card system allows non-season ticket holders to buy in advance and save money on normal admission prices. Under-8s go free for all League One clashes.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell said: "The team have made a great start to the season and who would have thought when the fixtures came out that Saturday would be a top of the table clash.

"Paul, Chris and the staff have worked hard last season and over the summer to build their squad. They have added the right type of players and so far we have played some exciting attacking football that has been great to watch.

"Wigan have sold their allocation so will have good backing and we need as many Town fans to be in the stadium to back their team.

"Total sales around the 6,000 mark so we are expecting a big crowd on Saturday.

"If you are coming down on Saturday give yourself a little extra time to get your tickets and if you are going in the County Group Stand use the ticket office behind the stand."
