Shrewsbury Town sweating on Bryn Morris fitness
Shrewsbury Town are awaiting an update on the fitness of midfielder Bryn Morris ahead of Saturday’s League One trip to AFC Wimbledon.
Morris missed Tuesday night’s League Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest with a knee injury.
The former Middlesbrough man picked up the knock during the pre-season friendly defeat at AFC Telford.
Morris was fit enough to start the opening-day victory over Northampton but was troubled by the problem in the following days.
And boss Paul Hurst admitted Town do not yet know how long the 21-year-old will be missing.
“It’s probably too early to really say but it’s a concern certainly,” said Hurst.
“We’ll speak with (physio) Chris (Skitt) more and get a little bit clearer information.
“It’s from the Telford game. He got a hospital ball from one of his team-mates and took a hefty challenge – nothing bad, I like tackles.
“Hopefully it isn’t too bad but it is a concern.
“He got through the game (Northampton). In training he’s felt it slightly but he’s desperate to play.”
Morris impressed as a deep-lying play-maker as Town began their League One campaign with a narrow win against the Cobblers.
He has been used in pre-season alongside Abu Ogogo and Jon Nolan with Hurst to keen to pack his midfield rather than settle for fielding a 4-4-2 system each week.
“If he does end up missing out for a little while that’s disappointing because I think he’s made strides in pre-season to force his way into that starting line-up,” added the Town boss.
“He’d have loved to have played against Nottingham I’m sure.
“We’ll have to deal with it if it’s bad news, if it’s good news then good.”
Meanwhile, tickets for Town’s league clash at Oxford United have gone on sale.
The Kassam Stadium encounter on Saturday, August 26 is priced at £24 for adults, £17 for over-65s and £16 for students.
