Jayson Leutwiler departs Shrewsbury Town for Blackburn Rovers
Jayson Leutwiler has completed a move to Shrewsbury Town's League One rivals Blackburn Rovers.
The Canada international goalkeeper was no longer part of Paul Hurst's plans at Montgomery Waters Meadow and has signed a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee at Ewood Park.
The 28-year-old, signed by former boss Micky Mellon from Middlesbrough in his first summer in charge, spent three seasons as first-choice with Town, making 141 appearances.
But he was told by Hurst at the end of last season that he wasn't guaranteed a first-choice spot for the coming season. Town have signed Dean Henderson, on loan from Manchester United, and Walsall goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray.
Leutwiler has two caps for Canada after switching his international allegiances from Switzerland, and was recently part of their Gold Cup squad.
He had just a year left on his contract at Shrewsbury.
Leutwiler looks set to fight it out for the No.1 shirt at Rovers, relegated from the Championship last season, who have 21-year-old goalkeeper David Raya – who has made just 12 appearances – on their books, alongside fellow youngster Andy Fisher.
