Brian Caldwell delighted with impact of Shrewsbury Town FanZone
Chief executive Brian Caldwell is delighted with the impact of Shrewsbury's new FanZone and insists the club are listening to feedback from supporters.
The club trialled the idea before last Saturday's visit of Bolton where glorious weather helped to bring a heavy footfall.
Local band Goodbye Ohio played in the area around the back of the Salop Leisure Stand, while food and drink were on sale. "We were delighted with the response to the FanZone, the numbers attending were more than we could have imagined – although I am sure we were helped by the good weather at the weekend," said Caldwell.
"However, we will continue the trial for the Saturday home matches with Rochdale, Walsall (Good Friday) and Southend. It's clear that financially it won't have a massive effect on club revenues but it is something we feel is the right thing to do to accommodate those supporters who want to come to the stadium pre-match."
Shrewsbury Town's charity partners 'In The Community' received a grant of £18,962 from the Premier League and Football Foundation to open the FanZone.
Caldwell added: "We are most grateful to all of the local bands who have committed to entertain for the four home matches and also to our partners at Shrewsbury Town in the Community for organising the FanZone.
"Their staff will continue to take feedback from supporters on a game by game basis in order to make improvements where possible going forward."
