Junior Brown urged to go on the Shrewsbury attack
Paul Hurst hopes to see Junior Brown give opposition full-backs more nightmares after his fine display against Bury.
The Shrewsbury chief was impressed by Brown's performance during Salop's third consecutive home win, with the left-back solid at the back while also keen to make an impact in the final third.
Brown set up the game's opening goal for Tyler Roberts shortly after half-time.
Hurst was a tenacious and competitive left-back in his playing days, where he was often targeted due to his 5ft 4in frame. He spent 15 years earning legendary status with the Millers, becoming their second-highest appearance maker.
And the boss wants to see the former Fleetwood man reaching the byline more often.
"Junior has done very well," said Hurst. "I played him as a winger (before) because I didn't really have anyone!
"He leaps extremely well. If people just come and watch then straight away they're going to question his size, which is something I can relate to!
"Junior's got a better spring than I ever had and he defends the back post well. He competes from goal-kicks and everything."
Brown arrived at Salop as a winger but was converted to both full-back and wing-back by Micky Mellon. After a spell on the flank under Hurst, he has found consistency back in defence.
The 27-year-old has made 36 appearances for Shrewsbury this season, three more than anyone else. He has also chipped in with a handy four goals and proves a regular aerial threat from set-pieces.
Hurst added: "My thing with Junior at times is that I want him to get forward more. I think sometimes he's slightly reluctant and I keep on at him to push himself.
"When he gets forward, because he can play as a winger, we know he's got an element of quality to his play. He beat the Bury lad a couple of times and made another chance just after that first goal, and that's what I want from him.
"For an all-round display, what you want from your full-back is to defend first and foremost but, when the opportunity is there, to get forward and deliver."
Meanwhile, young striker Kaiman Anderson today joined National South side Oxford City on loan.
The 19-year-old had a spell with Halesowen Town earlier in the campaign.
