Paul Hurst revelling in Shrewsbury Town positivity following strong start
Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst is revelling in the positive atmosphere at Greenhous Meadow as he continues an impressive start to the role.
Saturday's 2-0 win against Oxford United – Town's first league success in more than two months – hauled Shrewsbury off the bottom of League One.
Following a point gained at Southend and wins in the FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy, the three points mean Hurst's Salop are now four games unbeaten since he took the vacant position just over three weeks ago.
And while still becoming familiar with his new surroundings – Hurst is spending time in Shrewsbury and his home town of Sheffield – the 42-year-old is grateful for the welcome he has received from the Town faithful.
Supporters chanted 'Paul Hurst's Barmy Army' on Saturday as a rejuvenated Meadow willed the team over the line.
"It's pretty good and it's early days," said the boss. "They might be chanting my name with something else attached to it after a little while!
"But at the minute, like the players are, I'm going to enjoy it.
"I've really enjoyed every minute so far, coming here and getting to know the club and people.
"I'm getting to know more names, but there's still some I'm having to be reminded of and just shaking their hands and being polite and not mentioning their name."
Hurst admitted what has struck him most is the passionate nature of supporters, who he believes want to see a squad giving 100 per cent to the cause.
"What I can see is how much the club means to the fans, we spoke about that when we first came," added the Yorkshireman. "And, irrespective of the result, like many fans they just want to see a team giving everything.
"Had it not gone our way against Oxford, I don't think we'd have been disappointed and they couldn't have accused the players of not being committed.
"I think the finale to the game summed up the spirit and I include the fans in that."
