Next Shrewsbury Town Manager: Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst rumoured to be set for role
Speculation is this morning mounting that Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst is to become the new Shrewsbury Town manager.
Hurst, 42, is understood to have been the target of an official approach from Salop in the role to replace former boss Micky Mellon.
Shrewsbury hope to unveil their new boss today, 15 days after Mellon departed for National League Tranmere.
Last night they were mulling over three final candidates, all of who shone at interview stage - as final negotiations with other clubs and representatives were ironed out.
Reports in Humberside suggest that an official approach was made by Salop and the negotiation between parties is ongoing.
Hurst has been in sole charge of the Mariners since 2013, a role he shared with Rob Scott from 2011.
He has received plaudits for his time at Blundell Park, guiding them back into the Football League last term via the National League play-offs.
Grimsby have impressed this term, sitting seventh in League Two.
It is understood an update regarding the managerial situation is to be made later today.
