Mellon was disappointed with the two early goals, both headers - the second from former Salop favourite Grant Holt - believing that they could, and should, have been avoided.

"I looked at the clock and it was 2-0 after six minutes. If I went through both of the goals, one from a set play and a header, that's a basic of defending," he said.

"The second one, I think Junior slips and big Holt gets across the front of the defender - so there were two what you would expect to be avoidable goals after six minutes.

"It is disappointing that you have to be 2-0 down inside six minutes playing a good side like Hibs."

Mellon confirmed that new addition Antoni Sarcevic was unavailable today after taking a knock on the hip during midweek training.

The Meadow chief reassured supporters that now was the time to be conceding soft goals, rather than in six days time when League One kicks off against MK Dons.

Mellon added: "We need to pass the ball better, we know that, to defend better, we know that. And we have stuff to work on next week off that, but the main thing is we pass the ball better with sharper movement.

"Defensively we were poor at times but it's stuff you want to happen now and have to work on during next week.

"I'm not going to stand here and say that I didn't think Hibs weren't better than us today. I think they moved it better than us, we need to move it quicker, better and faster.

"I think the goals that we gave away - I'm glad that they're this time of the year."
