Work begins on new memorial garden at Shrewsbury Town's ground
Work has started on a new memorial garden at the home of Shrewsbury Town Football Club.
The garden is being built at the Greenhous Meadow off Oteley Road, and is intended to act as a lasting and permanent memorial to fans, players and staff.
The club has been working with representatives from its supporters' parliament Super Blues, as well as its chaplain Reverend Phil Cansdale, as to the best way to create a lasting memorial.
The working group has visited and spoken with clubs around the country and drawn advice from Sports Chaplaincy UK, which works with English clubs.
Now the club has set aside an area which will serve as the dedicated memorial garden.
Mr Cansdale said he was pleased there would now be a dedicated garden where fans can remember their loved ones.
He said: "We know how huge a part the club plays in people's lives, and so we want to offer a range of ways to celebrate and remember life's most significant moment.
"I'm very much looking forward to working with families who would like to scatter ashes in this new memorial garden, and to see the area becoming part of the story of the club."
Supporters' Parliament chairman Mike Davis said he was delighted that the project was under way.
He said: "Personally I'm very pleased we have been able to get this project off the ground and underway this summer."
