Micky Mellon: Am I part of Shrewsbury Town plans?

Micky Mellon is set for talks with chairman Roland Wycherley on the direction of Shrewsbury Town and to see if he is part of those plans.

The Town boss says he has completed the objectives of the two-year plan he was set and wants to know what the next one is.

Mellon, who takes Town for the final game of the season tomorrow at Swindon, won automatic promotion from League Two in his first season in charge and has led them to survival in League One and the FA Cup fifth round.

Discussions are due this weekend, with the squad on an overnight stay in Wiltshire.

"I was asked to get us promoted and keep us in the league, so it's job done," said the 44-year-old, who is on a one-year rolling contract.

"Now it's about me finding out what the next plan is and seeing if that can be done, or if I'm part of that.

"I'd love to (take the club further) but I can't answer that until I sit down with the chairman.

"I like to know what the objectives are because, if you don't find out, they change in football. I want to clear a path in my own head."

Ambitious Mellon wants to take the club forwards and hinted the sacrifices he makes – with his family based in Blackpool – must be worth making.

"I'm not sitting here because I want a job. I can get a job – I'm an intelligent guy who can turn my hand to a lot of stuff or be a manager somewhere else," he said.

"For two years I've lived away from my kids and I've missed an awful lot, but they've been sacrifices I believe were worth making.

"I have to make sure the sacrifices are worth making against not seeing my wife and kids every day."

Ideally, Mellon wants to remain at the Greenhous Meadow, but with an improved squad.

"I want to be here on August 6 with a team like the Harlem Globetrotters," he said.

"I want us to have a really good pop at the teams at the top end."
