Shrewsbury's Jermaine Grandison is treated
Defender Jermaine Grandison has undergone a procedure on his troublesome hip - as Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon admitted his side must do better.
Grandison was unavailable for Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Millwall after posting a picture of himself on social media in a Cambridge hospital bed.
The 25-year-old defender added the comment: "Procedure done! Can't wait to be back playing freely and enjoying my football again!"
Grandison was one of three centre-backs ruled out for the trip to The Den with suspended pair Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Zak Whitbread.
Their absence saw Mellon field an unfamiliar back line, with on-loan Wigan youngster Jack Hendry making his league debut.
It came alongside fellow 20-year-old Dom Smith and the recalled Mat Sadler in a defensive three, with wing-back Mickey Demetriou brought in for his first game of the season.
Goalkeeper Mark Halstead became the third Town player in as many games to be sent off and he will be suspended for Saturday's visit of third-placed Bradford City.
Town are now just a point clear of the drop zone with six games left after Oldham and Colchester won and Fleetwood drew.
But the manager said: "We'll get the boys in today. We have to do better but we'll comb over it.
"It was a case of losing a header, people not doing their jobs on the edge of the 18-yard box and underhitting a backpass."
Demetriou ended up in goal for the last few minutes, after Halstead was sent off.
Mellon said of his surprise recall: "He did fine. He just hasn't had the opportunity because Junior Brown's been brilliant – possibly player of the season, so it was going to be difficult."
Halstead was red carded for bringing down Lee Gregory for a penalty, which the latter scored following a poor back-pass from Richie Wellens.
