Shrewsbury Town duo are out of action

Matt Tootle's chances of gatecrashing Shrewsbury Town's team have been knocked for six after a KO – while James Wallace has suffered another setback.

Tootle, who is back in boss Micky Mellon's plans after an Achilles problem, suffered concussion after an accidental clash of heads with team-mate Larnell Cole in training.

Mellon said: "He's got concussion – he ran into Larnell Cole and sparked himself out.

"He's recovering from a nasty clash of heads – 'Larny' just bounced off him and was able to get on with it, but it was a bad one. He's not even training – he was seeing a doctor yesterday."

Meanwhile, fans will have to wait longer to see Wallace back in action after he suffered a setback with his knee injury.

The on-loan Sheffield United midfielder had an injection last week, after being forced off in the 2-1 defeat to Southend on February 2, with today's visit of Port Vale the 10th match he has missed.

Mellon continued: "He had another setback the other day kicking a ball. He's back with 'Skitty' (head physio Chris Skitt) to get going again."

The Town chief insists Wallace can play a part in the run-in, adding: "I'm definitely confident.

"I'm especially wanting to get him going because he has all the qualities in a midfielder for this level and above. I'm absolutely certain the Shrewsbury fans will love seeing him play."

Elsewhere, Mellon admits the form of his front players is keeping Elliot Grandin sidelined.

The former Blackpool playmaker is still waiting for his debut and has spent eight of his nine games with the club on the bench.

Mellon, who said the player is fit to start games, added: "Unfortunately for Elliot – but fortunately for the fans and myself – these guys have been nothing short of magnificent.

"There are so many players who play in Elliot's position who get people off their seats so that answers that question.

"But they know the minute their standards drop and Elliot will give us a better chance of winning a game than they will, Elliot will play."
