Shrewsbury slash cost of match-day tickets

Shrewsbury Town have cut the cost of match-day tickets for the new season by revising their ticketing policy following feedback from their supporters.

Town unveiled their new ticket prices for League Two last week, which included a number of price rises on the previous season.

The club also introduced a new membership ticket scheme which offered reductions on prices of up to £3 in return for a sign-up fee of £5.

They had been set to replace the dynamic ticketing scheme from the previous season, which offered fans reductions on tickets booked in advance of the game.

But the new plans came in for criticism from some supporters, with discussions held both internally and with the members of the Supporters Parliament.

The club has now unveiled a new pricing structure offering membership prices to all supporters.

Town chief executive Matt Williams explained: "We have had several discussions with members of the Supporters Parliament in respect of our ticketing policy for the forthcoming season.

"It is important that we listen to our customers and act accordingly.

"We have been able to review our match-day admission prices for the new season and have decided not to proceed with the membership scheme."

He added that match-day prices would be cheaper for this season than last as a result. Tickets for category A matches will be priced at £22 adults, £17 senior and disabled fans, and £15 for students and juniors under 18.

Category B prices will cost £20 for adults, £15 for senior and disabled fans, £14 for students, £12 for juniors aged 12-16, and £5 for juniors aged 11 and under.

The dynamic ticketing scheme, which has been axed, did offer some further reductions for tickets bought weeks in advance of a game.

The cheapest adult category B ticket bought four weeks in advance had cost £16. But Williams said that take up of that offer had been very low and the system had been criticised for being too complex.

The club has also decided to extend the final discount period for season tickets until the start of the season.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ryan Woods is vowing to improve on last season's breakthrough campaign.

The talented 20-year-old, who played 45 minutes in Town's 2-1 defeat West Brom last night, said: "I ain't going to lie, it is a very big season for me and I will be looking to play as much as I can.

"I have just got to keep pushing on and keep improving my game."
