Video: Wolves' Liam McAlinden delighted with Shrewsbury Town loan deal
Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner today landed his second striker in as many days after completing a loan deal for Wolves youngster Liam McAlinden.
The Northern Ireland Under-21 international has joined on a three-month deal.
His capture comes a day after Turner landed an initial month-long loan for Huddersfield's Spanish striker Cristian Lopez. Both are set to go straight into the squad for tomorrow's League One home clash with Gillingham and boss Turner is delighted with his latest acquisition.
He said: "Liam is a player I've watched over the last 18 months and he has really developed over that time.
"We've been asking about him since the start of the season and it's good to finally have him on board."
McAlinden, 20, made his first-team debut for Wolves as a substitute against Burnley in April and has played three senior games for the Molineux club this season.
He scored his first goal in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Walsall last month.
But his appearances have been restricted by the form of fellow frontmen Leigh Griffiths, Kevin Doyle and Bjorn Sigurdarson, as well as Jake Cassidy.
McAlinden said: "It's something I've been looking forward to because it's been on the cards for a while now.
"I've played one or two games for Wolves this season but hopefully I can get more games here. I'm hoping to impress, it's the same league Wolves are in so the experience will help."
And Wolves boss Kenny Jackett believes a loan move is the ideal solution for all parties.
He said: "Liam's not had as many minutes as possible on the pitch but he's got terrific potential and shows excellent quality in the under-21s. And with some physical development and experience, we feel he can be a very good player."
Adam Reach plays the last game of his loan spell from Middlesbrough tomorrow and Turner plans talks with the player next week over the possibility of extending his stay.
