Shrews trial Newcastle's James Tavernier
Newcastle United youngster James Tavernier has been revealed as Shrewsbury's latest loan target from the Premier League.
Town boss Graham Turner confirmed the Toon full-back is under consideration for a longer stay at the Greenhous Meadow.
He impressed as a trialist in last night's 4-2 warm-up victory over Birmingham and Turner missed out on signing a right-back on loan last week after the player was injured in a pre-season outing.
But he still believes he needs a specialist to fill the position, although home-grown Connor Goldson has demonstrated his versatility filling in during the friendly outings.
Tavernier, 21, is highly-rated at Newcastle, for whom he tasted Europa League action last season along with a brief Premier League bow with two substitute appearances.
He has enjoyed previous loan stints with Sheffield Wednesday, Carlisle and Milton Kaynes Dons.
Turner said: "He settled in very well and put in a good cross. He is worth pursuing."
Jon Taylor and Tom Bradshaw struck first-half efforts. Then after Blues hit back to level after the break, Paul Parry lofted an eye-catching finish before Darren Jones completed the scoring.
Turner declared his satisfaction with his side's finishing and attacking verve, particularly in the first-half, and reserved special praise for Bradshaw, who could lead the line against Milton Keynes Dons on August 3.
Turner said: "It was a good performance from Tom and he used all his energy, pace and mobility. He also held the ball up well, which is not normally not one of his strengths.
"Tom got himself on the move and it was a good finish. He can do that and we saw it from John Marsden last Saturday against Bolton. Strikers who are on the move in the box will always get chances."
On the downside for Salop, Jon Taylor limped off with a second-half ankle injury, which could leave him doubtful for the visit of a Manchester City development squad to the Meadow for Saturday's final warm-up.
