Town and Heath chase place in the final of TJ Vickers Cup

Free-scoring Shifnal Town are out to book their place in the TJ Vickers Cup final tonight.

Town face off with Allscott Heath at Market Drayton Town's Greenfields home, where spectators are permitted to watch after easing as part of this week's government guidance.

Danny Carter and Andrew Carrier's men go into the last four tie as higher-ranked favourites. Shifnal finished top of the West Midlands Premier for the second curtailed season running and, with the restructuring of non-league nationally, have been awarded promotion to step five.

And Town have been on fire in the end-of-season competitive cup football, where they have a shot at making the county cup final as well as the final of the West Midland League's Moving Forward Sports Cup.

Allscott play in the division below but have also impressed since action resumed in the form of cup competition. The two clubs met in the West Midlands League Cup and Shifnal only edged beyond Stu Lewis's side on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Shifnal hit the goal trail again to book their place in the semi-finals of the Moving Forward Sports Cup.

Town’s final group stage clash saw them secure top spot thanks to a comprehensive 9-2 victory over second-placed Wellington Amateurs.

A flying start saw Town two goals to the good inside 11 minutes. Rees Wedderburn struck first with a low drive into the far corner of the net. A spectacular long-range free-kick from Jake Webb quickly doubled his side’s advantage.

The visitors hit back through a Jamie Russell penalty but Shifnal were soon back in charge when Webb added his second of the day.

Wedderburn also doubled his tally with an with an exquisite chip over keeper Gregory Fletcher. Tom Hill then got in on the act when he prodded home from close range to make it 5-1 at half-time.

Town soon extend their lead after the break with strikes from Kieron Northwood and Hill.

The goal of the game came in the 61st minute when Jay Holdcroft beat several players before firing past Fletcher.

Wedderburn completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes remaining before Matt Elsmore bagged a late consolation for Ams.
