Goddard expecting an upturn at Alport

Manager Luke Goddard believes Whitchurch Alport are not far away from becoming one of the best teams in their division.

Alport suffered a third successive defeat last weekend when they were knocked out of the FA Vase by Shepshed Dynamo.

They return to league action tomorrow with the visit of Northwich Victoria in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Alport sit 17th, winless from six matches, but Goddard insists they can be up competing at the right end.

He said: “I believe that we are close to being a stand out side in this division. The margins really are very fine indeed.

“If you look at our last two league games, the first was against the league leaders and we got beat 45 seconds from the end.

“Then at City of Liverpool, we lost 1-0 but should have won comfortably.

“We’re working the ball into some good areas so whether it’s the quality in the final third or just a case of not being clinical enough, I’m not sure.

“That’s my job to sort that out.”
