He previously guided the side to a record 11th place finish in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division 1 South last season.

However, with the side currently 16th in the table, the club made the decision to part ways with the boss.

"Market Drayton Town FC have parted company with First Team Manager Martyn Davies after two seasons at the helm of the Shropshire club which included a record 11th place finish in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division 1 South in the 2016/17 season." Read the statement.

"Today's departure draws to a close a 18 year association with the club."

Following the news, Davies took to Twitter to criticise the decision, stating that the club should 'hang their heads in shame'.

In a number of tweets, Davies confirmed the decision to remove him as boss, and was clearly angered by the move given his time spent with the side.

"Fuming is an understatement, years of effort to stabilise the team now this!" He tweeted, before replying directly to the club's message to fans confirming his sacking.

"Keep your fake thanks to yourself! Harry houdini can't take a club in our position forward without serious cash and support!"

Chairman Ben Cockram offered his thanks to Davies as he left the post.

“I am very grateful for the hard work that Martyn has put into his management and coaching roles at the club and wish him the very best with his management career going forward." Cockram said.

"He has been a loyal servant to the club for the past 18 years and we are by no means closing the door on him here at Greenfields; we will always welcome him with open arms at the club and we remain incredibly appreciative of the fantastic service he has given us over the years.

“This has not been a decision we have taken lightly.

"We have had several meetings on how we can move the club forward. We sat down, discussed our options, and came to a decision that we need to freshen things up here by looking for a new management team.

"Martyn has done an excellent job over the last couple of seasons but we feel he's taken us as far as he can and the Board unanimously agreed that a change in direction was needed.

"We have been very busy examining several impressive candidates for his successor and we will announce our new First Team manager soon."
