Dave Hibbert: AFC Telford fear nobody
Dave Hibbert insisted AFC Telford United's performance against Shrewsbury Town showed they fear no one as they look forward to taking on leaders Solihull Moors.
Hibbert was back on familiar territory at Greenhous Meadow and was given a generous reception as his old club Shrewsbury beat Telford 3-2 on penalties after the Shropshire Senior Cup final ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Rob Smith's side took the game to a largely youthful Town for long spells and created the more openings as John Cofie's 47th-minute effort was cancelled out by James Wesolowski on the hour.
"We looked a real threat and hopefully we can take this on into Saturday now," said Hibbert.
"They had a young side out but the spine of their team was very experienced in 'Weso' (James Wesolowski) and Scott Vernon so there was a lot of know-how out there but our lads applied themselves well.
"We showed the character that we've displayed over the last couple of months.
"There was a time where everyone was pretty down but we've really stuck together and we're such a close-knit bunch of lads that we don't fear anyone and we work exceptionally hard for each other.
"We wanted to enjoy ourselves and we certainly did that."
Telford continued their performances which have brought them a seven-match unbeaten run and five consecutive clean sheets in the league.
"We've got a big game on Saturday which we're all thoroughly looking forward to," said Hibbert.
"I thought we played really well - we were really fluent on what's a big pitch and a good surface so we could really pop the ball around so I thought the lads did superbly well."
Hibbert, a former top scorer at Town before his full-time career was ended by serious injury was applauded by both sets of fans when he replaced Sean Clancy in the 64th minute.
"It meant a lot to me because I never thought I'd get the chance to play at Shrewsbury again," said the 29-year-old.
"It was a bit of a cameo but it meant a lot to me personally, particularly with what I've been through."
Tralist midfielder Reece Simpson was replaced by Jordan Wynter after 64 minutes.
