Larry Chambers: AFC Telford are not safe yet

Assistant boss Larry Chambers believes the improvement of relegation rivals means AFC Telford United must keep their foot to the floor in the race to stay up.

The Bucks' No 2 agrees with boss Rob Smith that they may need just one more win to secure their National League North future.

Telford will be chasing their sixth straight victory and seventh unbeaten game when they go to Nuneaton on Saturday.

They've kept four successive clean sheets to climb six points clear of the drop zone with six games left.

But Chambers insists the team still needs to continue their winning habit to avoid being dragged back into trouble.

He said: "It could just need one more win, but it might be two.

"What we've got to do is maintain the momentum and pick up more points along the way and not just think we need one more win.

"It's been proved already, with Lowestoft having won two out of three and FC United of Manchester winning three in a row.

"Lowestoft, Stalybridge and Worcester have two games in hand on us."

Chambers believes AFC Telford United's strength in depth is a key to their stunning revival.

Last Saturday's latest success – a 1-0 win at home to Tamworth – was achieved without in-form strikers Josh Wilson and John Cofie.

Their absence gave a chance to Izak Reid and Dave Hibbert, and Chambers reckons the strength of those ready to come in paid handsome dividends.

He said: "Up front Josh hit the ground running and now we've got 'Hibbo' fit again, the other thing is that we've got a good bench.

"There's Izak Reid and Sean Clancy and we've got five strikers going for three places."

Wilson, who has had an infected tooth, and Cofie, who has tweaked a hamstring, are hoping to be available for the trip to Nuneaton on Saturday.
