AFC Telford ready to pitch in loan duo

AFC Telford United have snapped up two loan signings from Halifax in striker Richard Peniket and Graham Hutchison.

Peniket replaces Southport's Connor McCarthy, who played the last game of his three-month loan in Saturday's 1-0 National League North home victory against Lowestoft.

The 22-year-old Stourbridge-born forward returns to the Bucks after a six-match spell in 2013 on loan from Fulham, when he also scored his first senior goal.

Hutchison, who had a six-match loan spell with the Bucks earlier in the season before injuring his hamstring, played for Telford at the weekend and replaces the injured Paul McCone.

Boss Rob Smith said: "We've done a deal to sign Richard Peniket from Halifax, so he will be coming in today. He's been injured but he's looked lively in training for them and he needs some games.

"Hopefully, Richard will do a job and then we'll investigate the possibility of Connor maybe coming back in January."

Peniket also served Hereford, Kidderminster and Farnborough on loan before being released by the Cottagers in 2013, signing for Tamworth, where he scored seven times in 42 games.

A year later he switched to Halifax and netted six times in 35 matches last season. He is now fully fit again.

Meanwhile, Smith dedicated Saturday's win to McCone, who is set for a long absence after tearing his cruciate ligaments in training.

Smith said: "I dedicate the win to him because he's my general. He's a great kid. It's a career-threatening injury, but he's up for having the operation as soon as he can."

As a non-contract player McCone, who works as a builder, isn't getting paid by the club while he's not playing.

Smith said: "Hopefully, the club can do something such as arranging a game."
