AFC Telford after two strikers to fill the void

AFC Telford United are pursuing 'at least two strikers' to help lead their Conference North promotion push after top scorer Tony Gray departed for Airbus.

The Bucks had been hoping to retain Gray, who netted 20 goals in all competitions last season, for the forthcoming campaign.

But the 31-year-old, who was out of contract , was yesterday snapped up by the Welsh Premier League outfit.

It is the second transfer blow for the Bucks in recent days, after talismanic midfielder Godfrey Poku joined Woking.

But managing director Lee Carter insists the Bucks are already well on the way to bringing in replacements.

He said: "There are definitely replacements being lined up. Both players made a contribution to us.

"Both will be missed but we move on and we have probably got five or six real 'live' targets that we are talking to.

"Some of them we have made offers to, most we are pursuing and hopefully we will get an answer by next week."

He added: "Tony's moved on to Airbus now and we have got to move on and find someone of equal calibre to take his place.

"Those are the kinds of people we have been talking to when we have been lining up a replacement.

"There's at least two centre-forwards that we have made offers to and the chances are that if both accept those offers we would sign both.

"There's also a wide player that we are talking to and a central midfielder we have spoken to. We have made tentative offers to both and if all those come off I will be delighted."

Telford have already added one striker in the close season in ex-Hednesford man Neil Harvey.

They also have Adam Farrell, top scorer as the Bucks won the Conference North in 2013-14, under contract.
