AFC Telford United star striker Adam Farrell is expecting to renew talks over a new contract with manager Liam Watson later this week.

The Bucks boss returns home from a family holiday in Mexico tomorrow and will resume club business ahead of the upcoming season.

Telford have already taken up a one-year option on Farrell, who netted 17 goals in the Skrill Conference North title-winning campaign.

And Farrell today revealed "very promising" negotiations were already a fair way down the line, before the Telford chief jetted off on his break.

The forward said: "I am happy to sign the option offer, but the gaffer threw a couple of things out there before he went away. It's all in place.

"I will go along with what he feels is best, I know I am staying here anyway so there's not the rush as with someone who is out-of-contract.

"I think it's more details that we need to iron out, so I can't see there being too much of a problem."

Farrell has been hitting the gym in preparation for pre-season, with Telford likely to report back for training a week earlier than last year.

It was July before the squad were called in then but the last week of this month has been mooted this time, with the Premier challenge afoot.

Telford will also want to be prepared for the tasks that lie ahead in their friendly schedule, with Championship side Blackburn Rovers first up.

The former Premier League champions come to the New Bucks Head on Saturday July 12 and are expected to bring a strong side to Shropshire.

Bolton-based Farrell is looking forward to that one, with a healthy rivalry between the two towns, with Wolves and Middlesbrough also to come.

He said: "Those games should be easy to get up for, there will be big crowds and I have a few friends who are Blackburn fans, so I hope it goes well!

"I am enjoying the rest but I want to get back into it now, I am getting bored on Saturdays now. I have been in the gym a lot, starting to get ready.

"There's no doubt in my mind we will be ran hard in pre-season, so it's for the best to be as ready as you can."
