Liam Watson: No more errors from AFC Telford
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today admitted there's no room left for error in their charge for the title after losing at Oxford City.
The Bucks remain top of the Skrill Conference North by a point despite a lifeless 2-0 defeat at Marsh Lane last night, with four games left to play.
Second-placed North Ferriby United's game at Stalybridge Celtic was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, but the Villagers now have a game in hand.
And Bucks boss Watson has told his players they cannot drop any more points if they are to be crowned champions at the end of the season.
He said: "We have just got to roll our sleeves up and we are in the last chance saloon, in terms of slip ups. For me, we need 12 points from our last four games. It's crunch time."
It was another terrible Tuesday for Telford, seven days after they recorded a new club-record 6-1 defeat at Guiseley.
But Watson argued last night's pitch stopped his side from playing, as they failed to score away from home for the first time in 19 games, with defender Dan Preston sent off in the second-half.
He said: "When we got there, I knew it was going to be a game of percentages and was really going to come down to who got the best bobble. I am not making excuses but the pitch was dreadful.
"People were saying we should get the ball down and pass, but I don't know how we would have on that surface. It was nigh on impossible.
"Even with the sending off, Dan has been caught by a bounce slightly but the referee was probably right, as he was the last man. For us, we lost every bit of shape.
"They have scored and the second was always going to come if we didn't get the equaliser. It was our 19th away game this season and we haven't scored, but we didn't have a proper attempt on goal.
"The dressing room was down and flat and it's not like it was a freaky one, like at Guiseley. But no one can turn around and say that the players didn't give me everything."
On-loan Southport defender James Smith came into the starting line-up for his debut last night, as Chris Lever was out with an ankle injury. Regular right-back Wes Baynes has a knee problem.
