AFC Telford are targeting a magnificent March

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today urged his players to make it a magnificent March for the club by ending the month with a 100 per cent record.

Victory at Leamington on Saturday would hand the once-again Skrill Conference North league leaders a maximum points haul from the five fixtures played.

A 2-1 home success over Bradford Park Avenue was followed by a 2-1 victory at Stalybridge Celtic, with wins against Histon and Oxford City on Saturday back on their own turf.

The manner of a comprehensive 4-0 scoreline against City, with all of their goals scored in the first-half, was much improved from the previous weekend's nip-and-tuck 3-2 verdict against Histon.

It proved vital, too, with previous table-toppers North Ferriby United slipping up 1-0 at Guiseley, allowing the Bucks to return to the summit.

Watson said: "We were really deflated last week and delighted this week. But our feet are on the floor and if we can go to Leamington and win, it will be a clean sweep for March.

"That's the approach we will go there with. We nearly did it in February, but we dropped two points at Altrincham although anybody who saw that performance will know that we were really good.

"We just keep going and a clean sweep in April could be in our hands, which would make us deliriously happy. But there is a long way to go.

"We have got to go to Guiseley next week, that's never an easy place to go which was proved on Saturday, but we will be there with our heads up and chest out."

Watson wants shut-outs along the way, too, believing it could well prove to their benefit, particularly if goal difference plays a part on the final day of the season.

He said: "There are eight games to go and if we can keep five clean sheets, I think it will be good enough to get us there. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of hard work to be done.

"Saturday was another game chalked off and we move onto the next. We have talked about how important it is not to concede goals and we managed to do that."
