AFC Telford relishing the away day challenge

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson isn't fazed by hitting the road again as he looks to keep their Skrill Conference North promotion charge on track.

The Bucks boss takes his table-topping side on the road for only the second time in five games when they visit Harrogate Town tomorrow.

It's the first of three consecutive away fixtures, with Telford flying high at the summit for the first time this season after the 5-3 New Year's Day win at home to Hednesford.

Watson's side will aim to keep up the pace by bagging three points at Wetherby Road and gain a measure of revenge over their hosts in the process.

Town hold a victory over their visitors from September's reverse fixture, where they won 1-0 at the New Bucks Head with Russell Benjamin sent off for the hosts.

But the journey holds no fear for Watson, who won the league's title on the ground when he was in charge at Southport on the final day of the 2004-05 season.

He said: "I think Harrogate have got a huge budget, one of the biggest in the league if not the biggest, and they have already beaten us this season.

"It was just one of those things, we lost a competitive game under me for the first time that day but the red card was a joke, I still stand by that.

"It's a nice pitch but it's on a big slope and, apart from that, it's OK. Hopefully, we can kick on and this is a big month for us.

"We have had some good days away from the New Bucks Head, too, so playing away from home doesn't really bother me."

Watson must decide whether Charlie Barnett will continue on the left wing in North Yorkshire, after the playmaker starred on the flank against Hednesford.

Sean Clancy is pushing for that place back, while Andy Owens and Tony Gray are likely to jostle for the position alongside hat-trick hero Adam Farrell in attack.

Watson said: "I always knew Charlie could play there, when he first went to Tranmere he had a season playing on the left and he had a great impact on the team.

"It gives him that bit more space and with the ball for Adam Farrell's second goal against Hednesford, not many people in this league have got that sort of quality.

"You could also see the pace he has getting at people which you don't normally, when he sits in the centre of midfield. He's got an awful lot of ability."
