AFC Telford boss Andy Sinton frustrated by defensive mistakes
AFC Telford boss Andy Sinton has said his side must cut out costly defensive errors after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to struggling Ebbsfleet last night.
The Bucks chief saw his side twice surrender a one-goal lead – the first time just a minute after taking the lead and the second time after handing the visitors a penalty when two-goal scorer Steve Jones upending Ashley Carew in the box. Jones also saw a penalty saved in the final minute.
After an open game Sinton admitted a draw was probably a fair result but he said defensive mistakes had ultimately cost his side all three points.
"For managers there were lots of good things but on the flip side of that lots of not-so-good things in defensive areas which contributed to the goals that were given away by both sides," he said.
"If I was (Ebbsfleet manager) Liam Daish I wouldn't be happy with the goals we have scored against them and I am certainly not happy with the goals we have given away.
"The first goal came after we have just scored a really good goal and 45 seconds later, through a lack of concentration, we have let a centre forward get inbetween us.
"You have got to get tighter in the box. We then get our noses in front again but have given another poor goal away.
"I am disappointed but we have just got to learn from our mistakes. We have got to be a little bit more reliable and a little bit more dependable right through the pitch."
He added that defender Liam Chilvers is a doubt for Saturday's trip to Tamworth after picking up a neck problem which saw him substituted after 27 minutes.
Should he be ruled out it will leave Telford with just two centre-backs available in Dan Preston and Jordan Rose, although Will Salmon can also play in that position if required.
