AFC TELFORD boss Andy Sinton is keen to offer more of the club's youth squad the chance to train with their first team counterparts in a bid to help develop the next generation of players.

The Bucks chief gave two of the club's under-18s – midfielder James O'Neill and defender Ben Carter – a run out in the senior side on Tuesday against Stoke City's development squad.

And he has said he would like to invite more of the club's promising young players to take part in first team training sessions to help them bridge the considerable gap between youth team football and the Blue Square Bet Premier League.

"The youth team is a part of the club we are looking to develop," he said.

"I would like to start introducing one or two of the youth team to train with us to let them see what the next step up is because it is a big step up.

"Being part of these friendly games will do those kids the world of good.

"It tells them that we are looking."

He reiterated his intention to organise further friendlies when possible throughout the season.

Primarily, the former England and Wolves winger said the games were to prepare the first team for competitive games but he said that opportunities will remain for youth team players to be involved.

"We will always offer the incentive," he said.

"We haven't got a reserve side so, whenever we arrange a game, it is for a real purpose because the whole club is judged on the first team but if we feel it's right we can always introduce two or three of the younger boys."
