Subs hailed as AFC Telford battle back
Super subs Chris Sharp and Kieron St Aimie have been hailed for their contributions in Saturday's battling 1-1 draw at Alfreton, writes Matt Viney.
But AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton also admitted that persistent injury problems are hitting the club both on and off the pitch.
Sharp and St Aimie were introduced in the 53rd minute at the Impact Arena with the Bucks trailing 1-0.
Both were heavily instrumental in their side's second-half fight back in which Sharp grabbed a spectacular equaliser 21 minutes from the end of normal time.
Sharp has been limited to substitute appearances so far this season as he works his way back from a hernia operation while St Aimie started on the bench with James Spray the preferred option up front.
But Sinton said he was delighted with the response of both players.
"The substitutes came on and did great," he said. "Kieron was a bit disappointed not to start but that is the reaction I want because he came in and with what he did, that was the Kieron of six or seven games ago
Strength
"He used his strength and his pace while Chris Sharp scared the life out of them and scored a fantastic goal."
The Bucks were without several first team players though, with midfielder Richard Davies (calf strain) joining Will Salmon (ankle), Nathan Rooney (foot) and Darren Byfield (hamstring) on the injured list along with longer-term casualties Chris Blackburn (back), Michael Briscoe (back) and Jay Smith (abductor).
"The injuries are absolutely killing us in terms of personnel but they are killing us financially as well because we can't use people," he said
"We had seven out on Saturday and that's 40 per cent of your budget sitting in the stands or back at Telford which makes it tough."
The Bucks chief fears Briscoe's season could be over because he will require an operation and a lengthy re-habilitation period while Rooney was expected to have his bruised foot X-Rayed today.
