Top-flight place up for grabs in bowls play-off
The battle for the most coveted place in Shropshire bowls reaches a thrilling conclusion tonight.
Burway and Hadley USC will go head-to-head in the play-off final for the Furrows Shropshire Premier League at Archibald Worthington (7.15pm).
The winners will replace the now defunct Childs Ercall team in the 14-strong top flight for 2013.
Burway will be hoping it is third time lucky after being beaten in the play-off final by Childs Ercall and Bylet in 2009 and 2010.
And they head into one of the biggest games in their history in high spirits after a treble-winning campaign has seen them win the Tanners, Ludlow and Stretton League titles.
"South Shropshire has no representation in the Premier League so it would be great to get there," said club chairman Wayne Rogers.
"We have had largely the same squad for the last few years so most will have played in play-off finals in the past. That may help us."
While Burway were seeing off Hanmer by 34 shots at Wrockwardine Wood in their semi-final on Wednesday, Hadley were cruising past Hanwood by 66 shots at Prees.
Meanwhile, two Shropshire double acts bid to claim a £500 first prize in the Lea Hall Pairs at Rugeley tonight.
St Georges' duo Alan Palin and Ian Gaut - the latter back playing end-of-season bowls after a break at the end of the league campaign – and
Newport's Mick Jones and Peter Farmer are amongst the eight-strong finals night field.
