The opening contest on the card sees a field of nine head to the start for the two-mile and seven furlong handicap chase in class five for conditional jockeys’ (12.40). A first success beckons for the Venetia Williams-trained Camulus, who should come on for his reappearance third behind a couple of bang in-form rivals at Lingfield where he was returning from a nine-month absence. Martalmix'jac put in a good shift here last month and is next on the lis

Race two of the afternoon (1.10) is the two-mile and five furlong maiden hurdle in class four, with 11 runners set to head to post. Aviation is shaping up well and looked well served by the step up in trip when runner up in a Warwick maiden five weeks ago for trainer Lucy Wadham. Open to further progress, he earns the vote to come out on top. Monty Bodkin was better than the distance beaten suggests on yard/hurdles debut at Carlisle and rates the type to do much better so can fill the second spot here.

Heva Rose got her career firmly back on track when scoring twice over fences last winter and, appealing as the type who could step up further this campaign, she's fancied to make light of an absence again and come out on top in race three of the afternoon at Ludlow (1.50) as a field of nine tackle the two-and-a-half mile handicap chase. Lucky Lugger rates the next best, a runner up over fences twice in November.

Nine horses will line up for the two-and-a-half mile handicap chase to mark race four of the afternoon (2.25). We Got Your Back was never stronger than at the finish when opening his account over shorter at Leicester three weeks ago and he's taken to build on that returned to this longer trip from a 3lb higher mark. Thunder N Lightnin is a most intriguing chase debutant and is another to consider for trainer Harry Derham, third at Kempton when last seen over hurdles that now heads over the larger obstacles.

Derham could pick up a winner on the card in race five (3.00) with Ascending Lark, who pitches up at Ludlow on a hat-trick bid after wins at Huntingdon and Haydock in his last two spins while the penultimate race on the card (3.35) can go the way of Eva’s Oskar, who’s record when fresh is pretty decent and while he probably needs a stiffer test than this nowadays, the 11-y-o should outclass the field if resuming from a break in good order.

Finally, the card comes to a close with the one mile and seven furlong bumper (4.05) with 12 runners set for the off. This can go to a newcomer, with Shotgun Shirley chanced at a big price for the Lucy Wadham team, a half-sister to four previews winner and the yard have had success with this family before, especially in bumpers, so she has to be respected on debut.
