The Surrey outfit wrestled back top spot in the top tier of hockey in England from last year’s champions Hampstead & Westminster.

Shrewsbury-born forward Goodfield, 26, is a key part of the Surbiton outfit and is celebrating his third league title since joining the club in 2016, having netted seven times this season.

The former Thomas Telford pupil began his hockey career at Telford & Wrekin and has worked his way up to gain international recognition, winning European bronze in 2017.

Surbiton finished first in a field of 10 in England’s elite tier after all 18 regular matches were completed in March, just before the coronavirus lockdown.

But England Hockey have suspended all hockey until June 30. The end of season league play-offs – competed by the top four sides to determine the champions and qualification for Europe – will not go ahead, and Surbiton were crowned champions.
