St Georges have closed the gap at the top of the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League with a 9-5 home win over leaders Newport.

On a depleted night of fixtures, Rob Burroughs and Alan Palin were the big winners for the Dragons in the agg+36 win, with Newport's Ian Whittington the visitors' star performer with a fine 21-3 victory.

Second-placed Castlefields were narrowly beaten on their travels – 8-6 at Bowring – for whom Rich Lawson and Roy Bradburn both recorded 21-6 wins.

Meole Brace produced a 14-0 whitewash over Archibald Worthington. Results:
