Matt Tilt has resigned as captain of St Georges Cricket Club - just three days after overseeing a dramatic escape from a relegation battle, writes JAMES GARRISON.
Tilt, who keeps wicket for Shropshire, has stepped down after four years at the Church Street helm.
The highlight of his tenure came when he guided the club to promotion from Birmingham League division three in 2007.
But this season has seen a massive struggle with survival in division two only sealed on a dramatic final day when St Georges defeated Water Orton and rivals Penn slumped to a defeat at Tamworth - the results condemning the Wolverhampton side to the drop.
"This season has been tough but it's been a good four years and the club are in a higher division than when I took over - which was the target," said Tilt.
