bowls3St Georges have become the bridesmaids, never the brides, in the County Cup in recent years.

Having lost in last year's final to Castlefields and in the 2006 showpiece against Sir John Bayley, it's a run Dragons skipper Mick Jones is eager to end.

But to do that this year they must beat fellow Premier League big guns Chester Road in round three tomorrow.

And Jones is unable to call on his Staffs stars like Kevin Keary and Chris Halford for the big tie at Telepost No 1 due to the rule limiting bowlers to playing in just one British club championship qualifying competition.

So the Telford giants will be up against it, especially as the Roaders lifted the Glyn Hill Trophy as recently as 2007.

Tanners Shropshire Leaguers Battlefield, having claimed the Premier scalp of Childs Ercall, will now fancy a crack at Bylet at Craven Arms as they seek a place in the quarter-finals.

Sir John Bayley and Bowring's 'Battle of Wellington' takes place at Reman while Wem USC, finalists two years ago, against Newport at Oxon could be close.

Full pairings: Sir John Bayley v Bowring (at Reman), Battlefield v Bylet (Craven Arms), District v Hadley USC (Bicton), Reman v Castlefields (Allscott).

Madeley Cricket Club v Pontesbury (at Prees 1), Meole Village v AWC (Coddon 1), St Georges v Chester Road (Telepost 1), Newport v Wem USC (Oxon).

  • It’s also first round night in the Consolation Cup tomorrow, the ties being: Con Club v Burway (at Wem BC 2), Bricklayers v Abbey (Shawbury), Allscott v White Horse (Con Club), Broseley v Unison (Childs Ercall).

  • Hanwood v Woore (at Newport), Charlton v Llanymyench (Pontesbury 1), Bishop’s Castle v Old Shrewsbury(Hanwood), Donnington Wood v Church (Bridgewater big).
